Description
Lowry is one of the UK’s leading cultural institutions, using visual and performing arts to enrich lives and shape the cultural, social and economic future of Salford and beyond. We are seeking a dynamic and commercially astute Deputy Chair of Trust to support our Chair, Nazir Afzal OBE, and play a pivotal role in the continued success and evolution of Lowry.
This newly created role offers a unique opportunity to combine strategic governance with entrepreneurial leadership. As Deputy Chair, you will bring senior-level commercial insight to our Board and act as Chair of Lowry’s trading subsidiary (OPCO), driving innovation and sustainability across our enterprise activities while safeguarding our charitable mission.
As Deputy Chair, you will:
- Provide strategic counsel to the Chair and Chief Executive in delivering Lowry’s vision and charitable objectives.
- Lead the Board of Lowry Trading Company (OPCO), ensuring strong commercial performance and alignment with our values.
- Champion good governance, succession planning, and diversity across the Trust.
- Act as an ambassador for Lowry, building relationships with partners, supporters, and stakeholders.
What We’re Looking For:
- Extensive senior-level experience in a commercial or enterprise environment, ideally with board or chairing experience.
- Strategic thinking and strong financial literacy, with an understanding of how commercial activity supports charitable impact.
- Insight into digital risk or cyber security.
- A collaborative leadership style and commitment to creativity, inclusion, and social impact.
- Experience in the cultural or non-profit sectors is welcomed but not essential.
This is a voluntary, non-executive position requiring approximately 1–2 days per month.
